Bedford Virginia HFH is a locally run affiliate of
Habitat for Humanity International, a nonprofit, ecumenical Christian housing organization. Habitat for
Humanity works in partnership with people in need to build and renovate decent, affordable housing. The
houses then are sold to those in need at no profit and with no interest charged.Volunteers provide most of the labor, and individual and corporate donors provide money and materials to build Habitat houses. Partner families themselves invest hundreds of hours of labor - "sweat equity" - into building their homes and the homes of others. Their mortgage payments go into a revolving Fund for Humanity that is used to build more houses. Back To Top |

 Construction on house number thirteen for Latasha Bryant and her two children is well under way. It is located at 518 E. Cook Street in Bedford. Buy a Gift Card, Help Build a Home. When you buy a Lowe’s gift card, you will help Bedford Habitat for Humanity build a new home. Simply purchase a Lowe’s gift card anytime on July 10th at the Lowe’s of Bedford only, and Lowe’s will match the gift card purchases up to $5,000 to support Bedford Habitat for Humanity's next building project. The gift cards do not expire or carry fees but you can not buy the card on the 10th and use it on the 10th. The Ride Virginia Poker Run to benefit BHFH on April 19th raised about $1500. Thanks to all sponsors and participants for making this year's Ride Virginia a success. House #12 which was dedicated last November, has earned the EarthCraft designation for energy efficiency. The 59 volunteers who worked building this house are proud of their accomplishment. Donations, which may be made online, are always needed to support Bedford Habitat in moving eligible families to home ownership. Donate autos, trucks, motor homes, boats, farm and construction equipment through Habitat for Humanity's national Cars for Homes Program. Call 1-877-277-4344 or visit www.carsforhomes.org. Also,The Carpenters' Club consists of people who contribute $50 monthly, quarterly, semi-annually or annually. Members receive a refrigerator magnet and bumper sticker for helping BHFH end substandard housing. Mail 'Att. Carpenters' Club' or call for more information. The public is always welcome to attend the Habitat Board meetings held the third Tuesday of each month at 7:00 PM in the conference room at 108 Center Street, Bedford.

Skilled and unskilled volunteers are needed for the construction work. In addition to construction work, volunteers are needed for coordination, committee work and to handle public relations. We have an urgent need for a person or couple to head the Development/ Fund Raising Committee. Tell us what you can do by leaving a message at 540 587-0280.
Information meetings for those who wish to qualify for the next Habitat house are held about once yearly. You must attend one of these meetings to qualify. If you or someone you know is in need of decent, affordable housing, please have them call 540 587-0280 and leave their information. |
